Dropshipping is a method of retail compliance in which a store does not keep the products it sells in stock. Instead, when a store sells a product using the dropshipping model, it purchases the item from a third party and ships it directly to the customer. 5 Disadvantages of Dropshipping

All of the benefits I mentioned earlier make dropshipping a very attractive model for anyone starting out with an online store or for those looking to expand their existing product offerings. But like all approaches, dropshipping with Aliexpress also has its drawbacks. Generally speaking, convenience and flexibility come at a price. Below are some shortcomings to consider.

1. NOT much profit margin

Low margins are the biggest disadvantage of operating in a highly competitive vertical dropshipping. Because it’s so easy to get started and overhead costs are so minimal, many competing stores will set up a store and sell items at very low prices in an attempt to increase revenue. Because they have invested so little to start the business, they can afford to operate on minuscule margins.

Generally, these vendors will have poor quality websites and poor customer service (if any), which you can use to differentiate your business. But that won’t stop customers from comparing their prices with yours. This increase in fierce competition will quickly damage potential profit margins in a niche. Fortunately, you can do much to mitigate this problem by selecting a niche/vertical that is suitable for direct shipping.

2. Inventory problems with your supplier

If you stock your own products, it is relatively easy to keep track of which items are available and which are out of stock. But when you stock up from several warehouses, which also fulfill orders from other merchants, the inventory can change daily or even hourly.

Fortunately, these days, there are a handful of applications that allow you to synchronize with vendors. Therefore, drop shippers can “pass” orders to a supplier with one or two clicks and should be able to see in real-time how much inventory the supplier has.
